Well yesterday was a great day of gaming.  We took Omaha to the first Glasgow Games Gathering show by G3 in Bellahouston Sports centre.

More pics at Omaha

Build for Omaha
At the start of the day we set up the game and prepared for battle...

GAME REPORT

The Germans confidently stand on top of the trench to view the on coming LC's ...

The troops are loaded into the landing craft...
.
The beach is already lively

Guys pour out of the Landing Craft ...the MG42's open fire...

A lucky German  mortar hit on a landing craft..it  takes out  some of the troops others wade to the shoreline.

Sherman DD'S are half scratch built.. the blue foam chassis with a Warlord Sherman turrent. The canvas sides are plasticard with tissue paper and plastic tube supports.(once on shore I exchange for a Sherman chasis with wheels!).
Trrops wade ashore,,,

The next shot Shermans  swim in...

I got a DD tank (with the cape collapsed). All landing craft are scratch built except one).
A DD Sherman (middle bottom) is hit off shore  and collapses.

This is is a good shot of the entire beach...

Along shoreline picture.

Germans man their positions

Germans are throwing grenades at the shoreline

The MG42 open fire again

The ramp goes down.

Its all go at the ramp end.

Bangalores are attached to the Belgium Gate by engineers...
Obstacles are all scratch built.

Some guys make it to  the sea wall and stop.

You can see groups gathered behind the Belgium gate.

Some more troops arrive and they are quickly heading for the cliff face

More Sherman tanks arrive... but look at the shore bunkers - 2 off board artillery shots and tank fire take there toll. Some lucky dice rolls also take out the forward trenches. But they are quickly re enforced.

I got a Sherman with a mortar at the
base of the picture.
The Shermans punch gaps into the sea wall....the troops storm through.

Half tracks speed forward from a massive LCV5...
Everything in the picture above is scratch built from plasticard and spare mdf. Identification numbers on the ships are taken from actual records and photos.
The Germans are about to be overwhelmed, the loss of the bunkers so early in the game is making it difficult for them.

Forward German reenforcements are wiped out. This is an unlucky position! This position was hit and later enforced 3 times during the game.

Two Shermans make a run up the road - the Germans get one with panzerfaust ....but one makes it to the end.
Medic waves his helmet to attract a stretcher team.

The GI!'s are now in that unlucky trench. ..

Break out. Troops are getting through...weight of numbers prevail.

These pictures are classic ...Saving Private Ryan specials...

In this picture you can see the engineers with bagalores, and medic treating a casalty on board.

Medic treats wounded on the Higgins boat.

A good action picture. Just look a the poor guy on the left...

Beach is lively
Guys at thre front take a hit..

Troops (3rd Rangers lead the way!) climb the cliff on both sides now with half tracks for covering fire. I just don't have the German troops left to hold a line!
Those 3rd and 5th Rangers are real handy.

It was a great day of gaming but a few lucky rolls at the start for the American side hit and limited my options hard.

And thanks to Joe for the video...

So thanks to G3 Glasgow gaming group for a great first show. Well done. The Glasgow  wargame show is back.

Lastly just a special note of thanks to Dougie for donating 40 off 28mm Russians for our Stalingrad game....cheers much appreciated.

Essen - Carronade 2017 Part 2

Essen Part 2

There are loads of photo's because well ...I couldn't pick the best...LOL
Enjoy...and a short video.

This is our runner up trophy (and Pak 43)...and the photos below are how we did it...

28mm Wargame
This corner ruin (pictured  above) is all scratch built to fit the shape of the other Sarrisa Precision houses. Wallpaper, chairs, table clutter etc. are added for detail.

Below  You can just make out the pak 43 sitting at the bottom of the triple chimney...its hitting the US tanks hard at the train crossing.
The ruins inside the large tenements are blue foam covered in sand and mdf. These are not fixed to allow removal for figure placement. Even the bought mdf houses needed to be engraved with bricks at the exploded sections and the pavements added (engraved foam board).

28mm Granary
Our large Krupp factory in the centre above pic.

 Americans move forward slowly.

Above Some get hit by mortar fire.

Germans move across the track. Unfortunately I later in the game forgot these ~ Germans were there and sent a tank through the hedges onto the  track -only to be close assaulted by panzer Faust and grenades! (more like a hedgerow battle!). I couldn't see them for the hedges.
American mortars fire back a PzG's on the track.
A rail crossing is the point to cross, Germans rush to prepared defenses.
Chimneys (pipes and brick paper scaled to 28mm) were added for height accuracy to the industrial buildings. The chimneys  were stabilized with custom built weighted holders.

GI,s  stick close to the walls...
 A PAK 44 is waiting...
3D printed by Paul (see pak 43 post earlier)

A good overhead shot of the board.
The motor takes out more GIs.

Germans again push forward across the tracks. The Sarrisa coach and track is mdf.
Panther stops a half track... without using the brakes ! LOL
Above: bottom left -GI's set up a motor and unleash on the enemy.

 Re-enforcements push towards the crossing.

Bang ! Bang Bang... Guys in green are taking a few hits. Everything American at the crossing is on fire.
.
Panther takes control...and dice rolls for the US are not good.

 "Some body get that panther."

The GI thinks about going down the street...

Picture below... Yes...a hit on the panther.
Anyone got a bazooka handy to finish them off.

More US armour get ready for final push. Nothing works better than EXCESS!

A tiger appears

Awe no... big cats on the prowl.

Is that a panzerfaust in that signal box!

 More GI's appear.
Wallpaper, tables and chairs add detail to the ruined houses.
Armour uses the buildings as cover.

I liked the vintage posters...
28mm Sherman

and a trophy is gained.
