28mm Stalingrad Targe 2019

So here we are at the Targe wargame show Nov 9th 2019...

Our table is Stalingrad (expanded version), the Barrikaddy factory.
It's the biggest we have ever done 12 foot X 6 playing surface.

28mm Stalingrad

 Quick Video for scale...

Players taking there places for a busy day. Russians on the left, Germans (early war and engineers) on the right.

Left to right...Germans deployed on the nearest side..in the large mill and destroyed workers housing.

Russians are in on the other long side with the  two smaller factorys and the massive factory 5ft long.

28mm Stalingrad
The Russians (top of pic) are facing two Stugs at each end of the table, two Sig 33 open deck, a Nebelwerfer, and Pz4 in the middle, a covered Sig 33, and a  Pz4 at the power station/crane end(right of picture).

Russians have two KV,s, three "war thunder" rocket launchers,  a Gaz truck mounted 75mm., and an anti tank gun.

There are also lots of prime movers and transport. Including Famo's, Opel Blitzes, Gaz trucks etc. etc. With about 200 troops per side.

All vehicles are  3d prints (except two), all lathes, mills and window frames for large factory etc are 3d prints. All building are scratch built apart from three kits which were completely re done. Approx. 6,000 bricks cut from matchsticks. painted, paper pictures of corrugated iron was pasted to cardboard and edges painted. Cork was also painted ad used to add to the rubble look. All walls are covered in paper printed in scale brick and floors had paper concrete applied. 3 Deep Cut mats were used. Troops are all on clear bases (for go anywhere look).

28mm Stalingrad
An open German Sig 33 gets ready to rubble the factory...

We 3d  printed ALL our vehicles  except two.

Stalingrad wargame
A cautious peek across to the main factory.

Germans deploy and take up positions.

A hasty barricade is across the entrance

Russians prepare for battle. Lathes are all 3d printed. Factory is scratch built with 3d printed windows, air vents toilets and mdf covered brick paper. ...and lots of hand cut matches for rubble. Corrugated roof tiles are paper images on cardboard.

28mm Factory
Russians sit tight and keep their heads down. The KV tank at the factory door gives you the scale of the factory.

A cautious German General sits and waits to see the effect of off board artillery before advancing.

28mm Warhouse

28mm Russian game

At the crane side the Germans use coal stacks for cover.

Above a shot inside the big factory...Mortar team on the right.

Best wargame
Russians bring up the big KV tank across brick and steel rubble. It's making a statement...HALT! LOL

Best Stalingrad game
A previously downed German Stuka (3d print) blocks the movement of troops.

A vast gap for the infantry to cross (no mans land).
The water tower (with Barrikaddy in Russian lettering) sits beside the railway line.

Germans move closer.

Big wargame
More Germans deploy in the centre.
Note the German entering the sewer system in the middle of the picture.

The German vehicles take cover behind the destroyed workers houses.

28mm Russian Factory
Power plant is on the top right of the picture.

Germans use the cover of the coal stacks.

A good shot of a 3d printed famo in cover. German HQ staff in the back.

This is half of the 3d printed German casualties for the board.

Awaiting orders to deploy. Love the guy in truck with his leg on the seat.

And the Germans make the first move...CHARGE ...across the open gap!

Germans are pushing through the power plant area. The rubble looks effective here.

Germans use the power plant for cover. With a blown up chimney and damaged rail track.

The rubble looks great here.

Here the come...

A good picture showing the scale of the large factory.

Smaller factory - all of the factories have full interiors. Lathes and drill presses.

A destroyed chimney stack near the power plant. German troops pass through the building.
Tip: We use the oil drums and magnets to position the walls during assembly on the day!

This picture shows you  the scale of the large factory...that's three 28mm T34s on the right and a KV tank in the centre.

Here the come again...more Germans in the powerplant.

Four Russians get ready to fight. Note the extra weapons on the rear green tables near the lathes..

The height is seen here with troops moving forward below the chimney stack. The chimneys are plastic pipes cover in brick scale paper.

Inside the large factory - T34s on the assembly line.

A dis guarded T34 turret lies on the workshop.

You can see 3 off  T34's sitting against the rear wall...and the overhead cranes.

An observing German officer.

The railway line is damaged..with a Sig 33 approaching.

Carnage!

A close assault takes out a German Stug. This stops the Germans push forward.

A   KV 2  tank is hit.. The Germans move forward again.

A 120mm mortar tries to hold the charge. The medic treat a comrade.

BOOM... German troops are caught in the blast.

A German shell hole takes another hit.

Germans use shell holes for cover. But the Russians are laying it on thick.

A Russian anti tank gun sits waiting on another Stug.

Russian HQ issues orders. Rallies the commanders.

A mortar in the warehouse with a Molotov cocktail trooper sit and wait. Patiently.

Get Ready...

A good shot of a Stug on the move. Germans are flooding across all areas now.

 German lose a Stug 33.

A Panzer 3 comes knocking on a wall in the centre with troop support. He's about to go straight threw.

.
Wider spicture of th Pz3 tank - knocking through the wall on the right.

Lots of Germans coming across the open  ground.

A good picture of the broken rail track. This was done by extendeding the centre of a track and using polyfiller and rubble to make it look blasted.....with bent rails.

Pnz 3 in in the factory. Near the toilet block.

The upper floor was continuely my hit by nebelwafer rockets...and lucky dice rolls.

A Russian close assaults a Stug and takes it out...but at a cost.

28mm German
The crane side is full on...and Russians are being reduced. This crane looks great.

28mm sewer
 Russian enters the sewers.

 Inside a T-34 waits for a turret.

The top landing of the office is chaos, every Russian has been hit.

Re-enforcements arriving at the ladder are too late with the Germans now at the top of the ladder (on the left).

A Russian prime mover is hit.

A Stug waits for infantry support to take out the russian anti tank gun...top right.

A HMG team cover the German advance.

You can just make out the 4 Germans in the rubble..

A Russian hero takes out a Stug in a close assault.

More and More Germans come across the open ground.

Close assault - Hand to hand fighting.

At the end of the day the Germans have a Panzer 3 in the factory. But only a minor number of troops. Russians are being reduced in number in the large hall but still hold the upper small areas.

So at the end of the day the Russians are still fighting in the factories but the weight of German troops and armour support looks fatal.

A great gaming day out. Special thanks to all the support team.
We picked up a few second prizes and had a good laugh.

Thanks to the Kinniemuir club for hosting a great day.

  4. cheers Gary Glad you like it. The Famos,Steyr, Sig 33, Stugs, Pz3, Opel Bitz, t34 etc. even the wrecked German Stuka are 3d prints. Then theres the buildings ... windows, power plant, lathes, drills, beds, chairs, crane hooks, sewer lids, vents pipes, toilets basins, etc. are all 3d.
The only other major factors are the bricks...we cut up 6,000 matches (at brick size) and coloured them. The corrugated sheets are cardboard with a scale picture stuck on both sides then the edges are painted.

There is a blog page on the build part of all the boards we have done.

3d means there is no limit anymore on the object. WE even did a large mortar...which is a beast of a size...check it ou on this page

Best regards -Keep rolling the dice!

The factory is mdf sheet cut by hand. because no-one makes anything this size -it all slots together in sections.

  7. Excellent job, can't believe it's all in 28mm. Terrific 3D printing (wish I could do that) and your smoke, bangs and burn markers are first class. Great effort.
