28mm City - Targe 2017

Well...what can we say a great show and we won best in show again... so we have won the Targe two years in a row. Apparently with all the judges unanimous. Thanks to all the judges and all the supporters.

Targe wargame

So heres some pics and chat...on how it went.

German officer leads the way in a 3d printed famo...
Targe wargame
German convoy escapes (all 3d printed) as they move behind the large factory ...a Morser 18's towed by sdkfz 9 , Famo 's and captured Russian tractors (Voroshilovets and Komintern), sdffz 7, Steyr car and Maultier.

Targe wargame

You can see the pak barn door in the above picture at the bottom guarding the level crossing. Factory chimineys need sweep ! LOL. The other thing to look at closely is the oil drums and street explosions which have broken cobblestones...(next to the long pipes). All of these are on clear bases to allow blending. See also table and chairs. The chimneys add height to the whole table.

The 155mm SPG (another of our 3d prints) gets a target from the spotter and hits the german half track in the pic below...

A stug gets plastered by american indirect fire.

Americans move into position...
You can just spot a German observer in the tall factory...below.

A lot  going on...
Targe wargame

A nice overhead plan...
German troops mass at the hedge for an attack. Despite the American   defense they get into the buildings ...
Targe wargame

Fighting in this alley was fierce. ..the Stug gets hit also an american half track and a sherman in this tight alley.it went back and forth three times in here...

The houses have rubble blocks which can be removed to allow figures inside.

I like the smoke effect ...really enhances the game play.
Targe wargame

Whole battle then just gets messy with americans pushing forward acoss the tracks trying to flank the pak in the top corner.

28mm factory
The factory has all the usual machines lathes , mills etc. All 3d prints. Workers have left...

Americans move slowly forward.

Lots  of american armour...but roads are packed with burning wrecks...getting through to the front is difficult...

28mm factory

Woaaaw the German defender's are starting to get outnumbered...might time for a white flag!

It was a great day.
With lots of interest in the 3d printed vehicles.... I think we will see a lot more prints from the other clubs in the future...

Karl Mortar and Morser

3D Prints

New 3d prints are looking good... you might see some of these at Targe in Nov...

28mm 3d print

And we might bring a Mortar....just to look good... It was printed in two parts because its bigger than my 15cm print table LOL. I also liked the shell support vehicle with loading crane.
28mm karl mortar
Printed some oil drums...

28mm karl mortar
3d Ammo crates add to the look.

The Tiger is plastic (with added skirt damage- I got the matches and hot screwdriver out!) but the Famo is 3d-its a massive prime mover.

28mm famo
Check out the engineer on the famo fixing the engine...with a large 3d printed spanner lol...

Morser and Famo

German Morser

So looking at some of the 3d files I thought the larger German artillery would be a good place to start...

So I just printed a German Morser 3d printed in 28mm...just look at the size of this in 28mm.
3d printing it going to bring into the wargames a lot more vehicles and guns. Some that manufactures would not produce.

28mm German Morser
And also a nice little... Famo! To pull it along... I put a guy in pic for scale. The Famo looks great - it took a while to get the rear spade correct - but now looks great.

UPDATE
Since then we have used a lot of prints on our games especially our Stalingrad game (see side bar on the right) to good effect...but back in 2017 hardly anyone knew what 3d printing looked like...

Essen - Carronade 2017 Part 2

Essen Part 2

There are loads of photo's because well ...I couldn't pick the best...LOL
Enjoy...and a short video.

This is our runner up trophy (and Pak 43)...and the photos below are how we did it...

28mm Wargame
This corner ruin (pictured  above) is all scratch built to fit the shape of the other Sarrisa Precision houses. Wallpaper, chairs, table clutter etc. are added for detail.

Below  You can just make out the pak 43 sitting at the bottom of the triple chimney...its hitting the US tanks hard at the train crossing.
The ruins inside the large tenements are blue foam covered in sand and mdf. These are not fixed to allow removal for figure placement. Even the bought mdf houses needed to be engraved with bricks at the exploded sections and the pavements added (engraved foam board).

28mm Granary
Our large Krupp factory in the centre above pic.

 Americans move forward slowly.

Above Some get hit by mortar fire.

Germans move across the track. Unfortunately I later in the game forgot these ~ Germans were there and sent a tank through the hedges onto the  track -only to be close assaulted by panzer Faust and grenades! (more like a hedgerow battle!). I couldn't see them for the hedges.
American mortars fire back a PzG's on the track.
A rail crossing is the point to cross, Germans rush to prepared defenses.
Chimneys (pipes and brick paper scaled to 28mm) were added for height accuracy to the industrial buildings. The chimneys  were stabilized with custom built weighted holders.

GI,s  stick close to the walls...
 A PAK 44 is waiting...
3D printed by Paul (see pak 43 post earlier)

A good overhead shot of the board.
The motor takes out more GIs.

7

Germans again push forward across the tracks. The Sarrisa coach and track is mdf.
Panther stops a half track... without using the brakes ! LOL
Above: bottom left -GI's set up a motor and unleash on the enemy.

 Re-enforcements push towards the crossing.

Bang ! Bang Bang... Guys in green are taking a few hits. Everything American at the crossing is on fire.
.
Panther takes control...and dice rolls for the US are not good.

 "Some body get that panther."

The GI thinks about going down the street...

Picture below... Yes...a hit on the panther.
Anyone got a bazooka handy to finish them off.

More US armour get ready for final push. Nothing works better than EXCESS!

A tiger appears

Awe no... big cats on the prowl.

Is that a panzerfaust in that signal box!

 More GI's appear.
Wallpaper, tables and chairs add detail to the ruined houses.
Armour uses the buildings as cover.

I liked the vintage posters...
28mm Sherman

and a trophy is gained.
